First arrival to Gimmelwald

After we got back fro our hike we grabbed our bags and took a 5min bus ride to Stechelberg to the lift that takes you up to Gimmelwald! I couldn't wait to see all the Rick Steves wonders!!! Below is the lift station at Stechelberg.

A paraglider. They are everywhere in the valley.

We are here! This is right by the lift station-it is one of the oldest buildings in Gimmelwald.

Funny sign about the Pension. Here with the hotel is the honesty shop. You take what you need and want then just put the money in the box and write down what you bought. Ahhhh the simplicity of small local towns.

Beautiful garden with gnomes!

Some more pictures of the village lifestyle. Including hay cutting by hand, free range chickens, rocks on the roofs to keeps shingles down, and the cheese hut. We bout some alp cheese from these people before we left.

The cow culture is super important to the people of Gimmelwald. All summer the cows are run high into the mountains and they hire hippies to milk them and tend the herd. During the summer the family then focuses on harvesting hay by hand to feed the herd all winter. All the cows wear bells and the town built a newer style milking barn a few years ago.

Here are some pictures of our room in Leises Heart Place.

Later that night we went to the Moutain hostel to eat some cheese fondue and enjoy the atmosphere. It is filled with easy laid back college kids that need cheap beer and a place to stay.

Nothings beats all the local favorites.

After we ate, we went back to our place and sat on the back patio. This was our view. We watched the sun set and the clouds appear and disappear. The sound of bells and waterfalls constantly fil the air. It is super peaceful. I took the last picture at about 10:30 and it is still light out. I wish this was our view in the backyard everyday!

From our our window in the bedroom.
